Hey everyone! The Princeton Conservation Society is announcing the showing of its most recent documentary film, The Glory of the West: Saving the Greater Sage-Grouse for this Saturday, February 19th! 5pm Eastern Time! All are welcome to join us for this showing and the Q&A that will follow.
We'd really appreciate it if you could pass this message along to your respective university clubs to spread the word for this project. Our focus is to create a trans-USA coalition of student groups to advocate for biodiversity protections on a national scale, building in some ways off of the Defenders of Wildlife university network. As both a quintessential American cause and a geographically vast issue, we really think that the topic of the Greater sage-grouse is a great starting point for a coalition like this.
Here is the form to register for the event<https://forms.gle/JmSP8qKU3vrjfPPH6>.
And here is the zoom link you can use to join us!<https://www.google.com/url?q=https://princeton.zoom.us/j/91341529040&sa=D&source=calendar&ust=1645281576500805&usg=AOvVaw1N1uvV-D911dxysL6I_d56>
About the movie:
The Glory of the West is a student-produced film detailing the conservation history of the Greater sage-grouse, a beautiful and culturally significant bird species that is native to the steppe of North America. Its range spans 11 US states, but the sage-grouse's distribution is being increasingly threatened by habitat loss via land conversion, which has seen their nationwide populations decline by every metric in the past 40 years. Princeton University student Patrick Newcombe spent weeks in the field observing Greater sage-grouse and interviewing the critical stakeholders that play a role in the species's complex conservation story. The result was a documentary film that uses testimonies from ecologists, ranchers, conservationists, energy executives, politicians, journalists, and other local players to represent every perspective on this fascinating crossroads of competing interests that is, in many ways, illustrative of the larger fight for biodiversity protection in the 21st Century United States.
We invite you, your respective university clubs, and anyone you think may be interested to join us for the premiere showing of this documentary, as well as a Q&A with its creators! We hope you will join us in this opportunity to develop this coalition and impact conservation in a coordinated, meaningful way.
