Greetings Doug,
Thanks - this is exactly what I needed. I'm going to send this along to one of our faculty, Jeff Fehmi, who works with the ecology, management, and restoration of rangelands. Because your position calls for 3-5 years of experience, and we typically are working with graduate students with little work experience, this might go nowhere. But at least I'll get your job description in the right hands.
Yours,
Jim Malusa

Thanks John!
Pleasure to make your acquaintance Jim
So, I don't have a job posted right now. At a high level, I have a diverse and well-established (20+ years) consultancy practice providing restoration and reclamation services to primarily private sector clients. I am based in Albuquerque (though nowadays that is less of an issue) and provide soil and vegetation services to clients throughout the western US.
I need a highly motivated mid-level range scientist/botanist/forester/ecologist with strong analytical and writing skills and an interest in environmental consulting focusing on mine reclamation with a focus on revegetation planning and long-term vegetation monitoring on mine-disturbed lands. The person should have 3-5 years experience managing large tasks and projects from developing sampling plans, assembling and leading field crews to collect data, data management, interpretation and statistical analyses, and report writing. They would need to effectively communicate with clients and regulators and help with proposals and business development. Occasionally we have small projects related to soil carbon sequestration, wetland delineation, soil/ecosystem surveys and crop irrigation.
The vegetation practice is closely tied to various soil science projects: soil-water dynamics (vadose zone performance monitoring, ET cover design and modeling), chemistry (heavy metal toxicity, acid-forming materials, and salinity/sodicity), fertility and nutrient dynamics (mostly semiarid ecosystems), erosion and geomorphology, as well as field pedology/morphology.
I currently have more than enough work to keep someone at this level busy the entire year with planning, sampling and report writing.
I'd be happy to talk with someone if they are interested. After I get through the field season, I plan to advertise the position
Thanks and appreciate the connection,
Doug

Hi Doug,
I asked my brother (cc'd) about potential candidates for the position you described, and it sounds like there might be some potential employees at the U of A. If you could tell Jim when the job is posted or get him a job description, he might be able to help you.
Thanks,
John Malusa, R.G.
