Hi folks,
My name is Andrew Jones and I am the terrestrial research program manager for the Arizona Game and Fish Department. Currently, my group is working on a rangeland restoration project where (broadly), we are comparing different rangeland restoration techniques in mesquite communities, to make recommendations to AGFD managers on restoration techniques. .
As part of this project, I am looking to hire a contractor to assist my crews with field work. Primarily, I am looking for someone who has excellent plant ID skills in Southern Arizona grasslands and is willing to work in the field with my crews. Duties would also include lab identification of unknown plant samples/photos taken in the field. I also need someone who has a good understanding of ecological sites and soils, to help us match treatment and control sites. Ideally, this person would have their own transportation to/from field sites. Sites are relatively accessible, with limited 4x4 off-road driving.
The rate of pay is $60-70/hour, depending on skill and experience. This rate is all-inclusive and includes vehicle costs, per diem, and any incurred lodging rates. We would not pay overtime (e.g. the contractor can work >40 hours a week if desired, but would still charge at the $60-70 hourly rate). We currently have 1 contractor who works with us who charges travel time at half-rate (e.g. charges hour-for-hour but bills at 1/2 the hourly rate). This is not required but I would prefer to have a similar arrangement with any candidate for this position. I would also prefer someone who can camp in the field or stay in nearby lodging, so that we are not incurring excessive travel time. Finally, the candidate needs to be willing to undergo a background check, so they are able to work on Fort Huachuca.
I am looking to have someone hired by March 1st. The sampling period runs through approximately early June, though I have budgeted approximately 300 hours for this field season, so the contractor may finish before June.
If any of you know of colleagues, graduate students, or other professionals who might be interested in assisting on this project, please forward this email to them, or respond to me with their name and contact information. I can also be reached at my mobile phone number listed below.
Thanks for your help!
Andrew
