(CAICE) Summer Research Program

CAICE operates a summer research program for undergraduate students during each summer, with participants at multiple universities associated with the Center.

Benefits and Details
·     Placement in a CAICE lab site (lab placements are available across the U.S.)
·     8-10 week program (dates to be determined by lab placement site)
·     Preparation for graduate school, attend field trips & symposiums

·     Receive a minimum stipend of $5000
·     Reimbursement for out of town travel costs (up to $500)

Summer Research Opportunities at Biosphere 2

       Biosphere 2 Earth Systems Research for Environmental Solutions” (biosphere2.org/education/research-experiences-for-undergraduates<http://biosphere2.org/education/research-experiences-for-undergraduates>) is a 10-week summer Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) program. Students participate in a variety of activities that will help them pursue a career in environmental sciences. They conduct their own research with a faculty mentor, interact with other participants and scientists, and present research findings in a formal poster symposium setting. Additionally, students participate in professional development workshops and outreach activities. Undergraduate students from a wide range of disciplines and interests including biology, ecology, plant sciences, hydrology, soil science, geology, atmospheric science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, or computer science are encouraged to apply. Only U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible for this NSF (National Science Foundation) funded program.

            Student projects take advantage of the B2 research infrastructure, including Landscape Evolution Observatory (LEO), as well as the NSF Critical Zone Observatory (CZO) and other field sites in the Sonoran desert and sky island mountains around Tucson. Projects focus on a variety of topics that include (but aren't limited to): coupling ecohydrology and biogeochemistry, investigating abiotic and biotic contributions to ecosystem processes, integrating measurements across scales, using innovative tools to link climate and ecological function, and modeling of ecosystem and soil processes. Students work with several outreach organizations at the University of Arizona that address local and global environmental challenges.

Call for Proposals - 2021 Babbitt Dissertation Fellowships



The Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy at the Lincoln Institute of Land Policy announces a call for proposals<https://www.lincolninst.edu/research-data/research/babbitt-center-dissertation-fellowship-program> for our Babbitt Dissertation Fellowship.



The Lincoln Institute of Land Policy established the Babbitt Center for Land and Water Policy in 2017. The Babbitt Center is focusing on the Colorado River Basin, beginning in Arizona and Colorado and expanding throughout the Basin. The Babbitt Center takes a four-pronged approach to securing a better water future: 1) research; 2) innovation; 3) build and strengthen partnerships; and 4) education.

We are pleased to announce that we are recruiting for several Pathways internship positions working across the nation performing a variety of assignments involving the basic principles of management and program analysis, in one or more Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) Office of Trust Services (OTS) program areas.  Students will also receive opportunities to raise their awareness of traditional ecological knowledge education and land-management practices in use today by Tribes. Please help us get the word out!

2021 Indigenous Community Media Youth Fellowship Call for Proposals

Cultural Survival is pleased to announce its fourth call for proposals for the Indigenous Community Media Youth Fellowship<https://culturalsurvival.us3.list-manage.com/track/click?u=dd0545e3cf1b8fc7d593ca7ac&id=8ee56f0807&e=40f31c4ca3> which supports Indigenous youth communicators in building their capacity as radio broadcasters and journalists through specific training, community radio visits and exchanges, radio production, conference attendance, and other educational opportunities. Applicants must reside in one of the following countries: Mexico, Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Namibia, Botswana, South Africa, Nepal and northern India.

Our Fellowship program provides ten fellowships annually to Indigenous youth communicators between the ages of 17-25. Each fellow receives $2,500 USD to implement their project during a 8 to 10 month period. Applicants must be able to work and travel independently and be responsible for implementing their proposed projects. The fellows will work jointly with a Cultural Survival staff member and a personal local mentor, who will provide support throughout the fellowship process.       The Biology department at James Madison University is starting an NSF-funded REU Site – Biological Data Science for Community College Students, in summer of 2021.  This is a 10 week (May 23 – July 30) residential program, with hands-on research experience at our campus in Harrisonburg, VA. Students in this program will have an opportunity to participate in field, lab, or computer-based research on different biological and biochemical topics.

      This program is primarily for community college students and other 2-year institutions where there are limited research opportunities for their students. We highly encourage students from diverse backgrounds, including underserved communities (e.g., minorities, first-generation college students), to apply.
