 Dear Colleagues:   We have posted the position of Director of our Allegheny Highlands Program based in beautiful Hot Springs, Virginia.  The Director will continue to head up our multi-faceted work in the Allegheny Highlands and play a leadership role in our collaboration with public land management agencies throughout the Central Appalachians.  Important duties of the Director include management of the 9,000 acre Warm Springs Mountain preserve, representing the Conservancy to donors and local community members, land protection and management, conservation planning, and leadership of the program’s team of staff, volunteers and interns.    The position will be open until May 5th.  The position posting can be found at nature.org (position #45330), and I have attached it for your convenience.    Thank you for forwarding the information to anyone you think might be interested and/or qualified.  Please copy Sherrie (sleab at tnc.org) when you forward the job description so we can keep track for our recruiting files.     Thank you,   Bill

|  |  | This is professional work drafting land management plans, and coordinating, designing and implementing mitigation projects, natural resource and hydrologic restoration projects on District lands. Job duties include: ·        Serves as Division lead in the development and revision of land management plans on individual District managed properties in accordance with District regulations, ARC requirements, and Florida Statutes.  ·        Research, analyze, and interpret land use data and past management activities and provide technical assistance to implementation staff.  Develop natural resource restoration plans, hydrologic restoration plans, forest management plans, and fire management plans. ·        Create and publically present PowerPoint presentations related to the land management plan for approval by the Governing Board. ·        Conducts biological assessments of District owned property to determine ecological sensitivities relative to the lands assessment process. ·        Conducts vegetative monitoring, rare plant surveys, and other diversity surveys on District lands as needed by operations staff or in conjunction with land management plans. ·        Serves as liason between the District and various local, state, federal, and other stakeholders in the development and writing of grant applications to support various projects on District managed lands. ·        Serves as liason between the District and various local, state, federal, and other stakeholders in regards for special projects relative to District managed lands. ·        Serves as project manager for special restoration projects and provide oversight to the implementation of restoration activities. ·      Assists with the compliance monitoring of conservation easements, life states, and fee reverters including conducting and documenting annual site reviews.  ·    Support District land management activities that includes participating on prescribed fires, fire suppression and restoration projects, State and Federal fire management activities as needed.   |

|  |  |   A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, or environmental science and five years of professional experience in the environmental or related science field.
  A master's degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, or environmental science can substitute for one year of the required experience.
  A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in biology, limnology, chemistry, botany, or environmental science can substitute for two years of the required experience.
  Professional experience in environmental protection or research can substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.    SJRWMD has determined this to be a mandatory-testing position as described in Section 440.102, Florida Statutes. Any offer of employment for a mandatory-testing position will be contingent upon successfully passing a drug screening paid by SJRWMD.
