Subject: APW Mentor Scientist Opportunity for UA Students
Hi CALS Colleagues!
We are recruiting undergrad and graduate science students to spend a day with us at the Hassayampa River Preserve near Wickenburg, volunteering as mentor scientists for a middle school field program we're running. We know it's late it the semester, but please pass along to any students you know of that may be interested in this opportunity. Students receive a daily $75 stipend and transportation is provided from campus.
Thanks!
Candice

Students in all disciplines are invited to participate in Arizona Project WET’s Water Investigations Program as Mentor Scientists! Students who have participated in this program have found it to be a valuable part of their education; helping them to better communicate science concepts and gain experience working with younger students. This is an excellent opportunity to extend your learning and enjoy the outdoors.
Mentor Scientists will participate in a brief training on April 18-20 and then spend at least one day with middle school students doing a scientific investigation in at the Hassayampa River Preserve (dates listed below). Following the day of investigations, mentor scientists, middle schoolers, and teachers will gather to share their findings at Water Investigations Symposium in Phoenix. Investigation topics will be chosen by students and might include plant or animals surveys, stream flow or water quality measurements. Every attempt will be made to match Mentor Scientists with an investigation topic appropriate to their field.
Mentor Scientists will receive a stipend of $75 per field day. Preference will be given to those able to commit to participating in a Research Symposium on May 15 or 16. To apply, please complete the attached application and return by email to Holly Thomas-Hilburn, hhilburn at cals.arizona.edu<mailto:hhilburn at cals.arizona.edu> . For further information you may also contact Holly at the above email or call her at 520-621-7477<tel:520-621-7477>.
