Dear Applied Biotechnology, Plant Sciences, and Sustainable Plant Systems students,

This Friday, we have back-to-back presentations that I invite you to attend (either one or both) via Zoom<https://arizona.zoom.us/j/82811451785> (<- this is the link to join the meeting. Click on it when you're ready to join on Friday). [Students currently in PLS 498 or 498C: please attend in person unless you have made arrangements with me or Dr. Wickramage for alternative attendance.]

Friday 3/1 9 am: Dulini Gamage, who is currently the Director of Assay Development at the Tucson office of Accelerate Diagnostics<https://acceleratediagnostics.com/> (a company that develops in vitro diagnostic assays), will talk about her career path. She has an AS degree in Medical Laboratory Technology and a BS in Microbiology and has worked her way up to a high level in her current company, so this presentation will be a good way to learn what kind of job you can ultimately have in industry without a graduate degree, even if you are not particularly interested in the exact type of work she does.

Friday 3/1 10 am: Dr. Sadhana Ravishankar, who is the current Program Chair of the UA Professional Science Masters in Applied Biosciences program<https://abs.arizona.edu/> (in addition to being a UA faculty member), will talk about that graduate program and answer your questions about applying for the program and/or being a student in the program. This graduate program is primarily intended for students who want a 'terminal' Master's degree - in other words, students who are not looking to get a PhD - and who want to work in industry, though it might also be suitable for other students (that's a question you could ask!). Within the program, students take courses in science and professional development, complete an internship, and choose a track (specialized area of study) from the following options (I've highlighted a few that I think might be particularly relevant to students receiving this email):

  *   Industrial Microbial Biotechnology
  *   Controlled Environment Agriculture
  *   Sustainable Bioeconomy & Bioenergy
  *   Molecular & Cellular Biology
  *   Diagnostic Laboratory Sciences
  *   Medical Microbiology Immunology

Hope to see some of you join the Zoom!
-Samantha
