Call for Participants:
----
Dear Graduate School Applicants,
We are writing to invite you to participate in a research study that explores the experiences, knowledge, and socialization of prospective graduate students in the life sciences. We are conducting the study at the University of Arizona with a focus on undergraduate or masters students who plan on applying to graduate programs (MS and/or PhD) in the life sciences this year.
We would like to invite you to participate in our study if you are an undergraduate or masters student who will be applying to life sciences graduate programs this application cycle. Participation entails three one-on-one interviews over Zoom focused on your experiences during the application process, your expectations about graduate school, and your decision-making processes. Interviews will be spaced out over a 6-month period. Each interview should last no more than 90 minutes and would be conducted over Zoom using a password protected link. If you are able to participate, we will work with you to schedule the interview on a date and time that is most convenient for you. The project's findings will inform graduate education in the life sciences fields and contribute to the literature on the early socialization of prospective graduate students.
Individuals who participate in all three interviews will receive a total of $50. After the first interview, participants will receive a $10 gift card. After the second interview, students will receive a $15 gift card. After the third interview, participants will receive a $25 gift card.
If you would choose to be interviewed, the information you share will be kept confidential and your name and other personally identifying information will not be associated with your comments or perceptions. Participation in this study is completely voluntary and your decision to participate or not participate will have no effect on your current program of study, graduate school applications, or your relationship with your department and institution.
If you would like to participate in an interview or would like further details on our study, please contact Angela Kaczowka via email at akaczowka at arizona.edu<mailto:akaczowka at arizona.edu> or by phone at (520) 621-1344.
An Institutional Review Board responsible for research that involves the participation of human subjects at The University of Arizona reviewed this research project and found it to be acceptable, according to applicable state and federal regulations and University policies designed to protect the rights and welfare of participants in research.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Best Regards,
