Internship Opportunity – The Bio/Diversity Project
*Flyer attached*

We are currently recruiting interns for the Fall 2020 semester for the Bio/Diversity Project. We would appreciate if you could please share this with your student network.

Applications are now open<https://biodiversityproject.arizona.edu/get-involved/intern-biodiversity-project> for students interested in a 3-credit, remote or in-person Fall 2020 semester internship. The Bio/Diversity Project brings together the combined efforts of the Women in Science and Engineering Program (WISE) at the University of Arizona, the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, and the Friends of Saguaro National Park to diversify the environmental sciences and provide environmental science outreach education to underserved schools in metro-Tucson.

Interns in the Bio/Diversity Project are paired with a local K-12 teacher and serve in Title I schools to implement culturally relevant, place-based, and hands-on environmental science curriculum focused on the biodiversity of the Sonoran Desert. In exchange for a commitment of 10 hours per week, interns receive 3 units of academic credit through any of 17 different departments. Weekly internship classes and assignments help equip interns with the skills necessary to develop curriculum and teach through an equity lens, and are utilized directly in the K-12 classrooms. Classes are followed up with an educational field trip to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum and/or Saguaro National Park to expose students to a variety of environmental science careers.

Applications for interns are accepted with a deadline of July 31st, 2020. Early applications are preferred.

ASEMS fosters a culture of inclusive excellence at the University of Arizona by empowering STEM students with the tools necessary to succeed while recognizing their unique backgrounds and assets.

The University of Arizona sits on the original homelands of Indigenous peoples who have stewarded this land since time immemorial. Aligning with the university’s core value of a diverse and inclusive community, it is an institutional responsibility to recognize and acknowledge the people, culture, and history that make up the Wildcat community. At the institutional level, it is important to be practice in broadening awareness throughout campus to ensure our students feel represented and valued.
