Please consider PLS424/524 Plant Biotechnology taught Spring 2016 by Dr. Eliot Herman. Dr Herman has worked for many years with plant biotechnology to enrich crop plant nutritional and nutraceutical value. Dr. Herman and his lab spent ten years finding the protein in soybeans responsible for soy allergies and culminated this work with the creation of a hypoallergenic soybean. His lab now focuses on using these hypoallergenic, carotene-enriched soybeans as a basis for additional improvements aimed at feeding the world's growing population, improving formulations for premature babies and preventing degenerative eye disorders.

Course Description:
The growing global population will require enhanced agricultural products. The basic and applied sciences are synergistically working together to meet these critical needs. This course encompasses the current science of plant biotechnology, its applications, and its future role.
