The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens' Horticulture Department is currently seeking a qualified student for an internship position.  The job description and the application site is attached. We are looking for a student that is working towards a degree in Horticulture or related field and is passionate about plants.  They will be working in our nursery and display gardens.  We have quite an array of herbaceous trial displays including annuals and perennials. We also have a large collection of trees, shrubs, vines and groundcovers.  The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden hosts over 1.5 million visitors a year.  This is a great opportunity for a student in the horticulture field. Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden - Horticulture Internship Program 2015



Summary: The Horticulture Department of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is looking for an enthusiastic, team player to work in our nursery and display areas. This is a unique opportunity in public horticulture for students working towards a career in Horticulture or related field. Ho  The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden is the second oldest zoo and display park (1875) in the US.  The Botanical Garden features a wide diversity of trees, shrubs, perennials, stunning summer annual displays and a large production nursery.

Duration:                                   35 hour work week, April - September; duration not to exceed 6 months

Compensation:                           $10 per hour, no medical benefits are offered with this internship



Nursery Assistant/Display Garden: The interns' daily tasks includes assisting with growing, maintenance and record keeping of plant material in our nurseries. In addition planting, watering, and maintaining trial beds including annual displays and perennial gardens. Intern will support in maintaining records, labeling and visitor engagement.  Student should have a passion for plants and working in a public garden.


Working Conditions/Other Requirements: Employment is contingent upon passing a pre-employment, post-offer drug and nicotine screen. While performing the duties of the job, the incumbent is regularly required to stand, walk, climb and utilize manual dexterity to use various tools, machines and equipment. The incumbent is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions and must be able to lift/move/carry up to 50 pounds without assistance. We are open 7-days a week, so the ability to work a flexible schedule including holidays & weekends is required.



Minimum Qualifications:  The ideal candidates will be hard-working individuals with a sincere interest in further developing their horticultural knowledge and skills in a public garden setting, and students who are motivated to take full advantage of the opportunities provided.  Must be a student currently enrolled in horticulture, landscape architecture or a closely related field.  A knowledge and passion for plants is required; a positive attitude is a must to join our team!
