Southern California Conference for Undergraduate Research – SCCUR 2013

 

Once UROC 2013 is over, you are ready to present your work at a national conference that aligns with your interests and that fits your budget. The Southern California Conferences for Undergraduate Research (SCCUR) accepts work in any discipline. The deadline to submit abstracts is Sept. 1. Indiana University, Bloomington’s Graduate School Visitation Program

 

Dear prospective graduate students:

 

The Indiana University Graduate School would like to make you aware of our fall recruitment program, “Getting You into IU” for prospective underrepresented and minority PhD and MFA students interested in Fall 2014 admission to Indiana University Bloomington (IUB). The event begins on Sunday October 13, 2013 and ends on October 15th. 

 

Indiana University Graduate School will provide all travel, lodging, and meals for visiting participants selected for this program. Completed applications to participate must be submitted by September 6, 2013.

The Graduate/Professional Student Recruitment Initiative (GPS) is Ohio State's premier diversity recruitment program for students considering post-baccalaureate studies at The Ohio State University. Eligibility Criteria:  Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen or permanent resident, currently enrolled or recently completed an accredited curriculum in engineering, physics. Preference will be given to individuals who will be graduating in the coming year, with a GPA of 3.2 or higher (on a 4.0 point scale), and individuals whose cultural background will increase the diversity of the graduate student body.

 

Application Procedure:  To receive full consideration, we advise that all application materials should be submitted as soon as possible.

Annual Conference

The Opportunities in Engineering conference is an opportunity for outstanding undergraduate juniors and seniors to visit the UW-Madison campus and explore graduate programs in engineering. Current graduate engineering programs available include  <http://www.bme.wisc.edu/> biomedical engineering,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/cbe/> chemical and biological engineering,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/cee/> civil and environmental engineering,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ece/> electrical and computer engineering,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ep/ep-research-priorities-engineering-mechanics-astronautics.html> engineering mechanics,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/interd/gep/> geological engineering program,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ie/> industrial and systems engineering,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/mse/> materials science and engineering,  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/me/> mechanical engineering, and  <http://www.engr.wisc.edu/ep/ep-research-priorities-nuclear-engineering.html> nuclear engineering and engineering physics. 

Opportunities for summer research programs and industrial employment will also be addressed. 

 

ELIGIBILITY: College juniors, seniors, graduates, current Masters students with majors in engineering, computer science, physics, chemistry, math or other physical sciences who have a strong interest in attending graduate school in engineering. All participants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. 

 

FORMAT: The conference will include presentations on current research, funding for graduate school, the graduate application process, and career options with graduate degrees in engineering. Students will have opportunities to meet with faculty and current graduate students and to tour campus facilities as well as the University of Wisconsin campus and the Madison community. 

 

DATES: Students will arrive in Madison by Wednesday evening, October 30, 2013, and spend Thursday and Friday learning about graduate school and research opportunities. Students will remain in Madison through Sunday, November 3. Those students who drive can depart on Saturday or Sunday. There will be a dinner Friday night hosted by engineering graduate students and faculty, and group activities all day on Saturday. 

 

COST: All travel, food, and lodging expenses (with the exception of travel days and Saturday) will be covered by the conference.

Also provide an unofficial copy of your transcript (transcripts must be in English), and two letters of recommendation. Letters of recommendation may come in the form of email, but must come directly from the reference. All applications must be received no later than Friday, September 27, 2013, with no exceptions.
