Subject: [Plsugs] Course for Fall 13: PLS 359 & 359L

Plant Sciences majors: Please consider PLS 359 and 359L for Fall 13.

This lab course aims to provide students a comprehensive perspective on
plant development. To begin with, students will be introduced to light and
epifluorescent microscopy and its usage. Subsequently, students perform
laboratory exercises that reinforce the basic concepts of anatomy of roots,
stem, leaves, flowers, and fruits. The course will also involve exercises
that not only teach the structural aspects but also discuss the functions of
a plant cell, tissue, and organ. Field trips to the Tree Ring lab at the
University of Arizona and critical discussion of primary literature are also
part of the syllabus.

PLS 359L is an excellent substitute for PLS 361, which will not be offered
in Spring 2014. Additionally, the companion course PLS 359R (Plant Cell
Structure and Function; 3 units) is an excellent substitute for PLS

440/540 which will not be offered in Fall 2013.
