Are you interested in a career in medicine, pharmacy, or health care?
Curious about how clinical trials work, and how scientists learn which
treatments are actually effective?
With support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, we are pleased to
offer an undergraduate course in Evidence-Based Medicine, ECOL 379!
This course focuses on understanding the scientific method through the
example of the randomized clinical trial, whose history and applications
will be explored in depth.
Students will design their own trials, generally on non-medical topics, and
at least one of these trials will be carried out by the class, to get
hands-on experience of the scientific method.
The course, with a strong emphasis on real-world scenarios, is perfect not
only for pre-health students but for future patients too!
The class is taught by Dr. Joanna Masel, and meets this fall on Tuesdays and
Thursdays 3:30pm - 4:45pm. Necessary statistical methods and concepts will
be taught in an integrated manner with their practical application to
medicine: the prerequisite is MATH 110 or 112 with a grade of C or higher.
To register, students may use UAccess.
For more information, please contact Dr. Masel at masel at u.arizona.edu.
