If you could send this out to your listservs I would be very appreciative.
<file:///\\localhost\Users\nrlucas\Library\Caches\TemporaryItems\msoclip\0\clip_image002.png> The Sierra Club Rincon (Southern Arizona)Group is looking for qualified interns for the Spring 2013 semester.
Membership: This intern will work on increasing the Sierra Club presence in Tucson. She or he will be working with social media to keep members up to date, write blogs about local environmental issues, plus will be attending local events to inform people about what the Sierra Club is doing. The work will include general community outreach and membership development.
Beyond Coal: This intern will help Sierra Club Grand Canyon (Arizona) Chapter staff to build the Beyond Coal campaign in the Tucson area. Tucson Electric Power, southern Arizona’s largest publicly-traded electrical utility, relies on coal combustion for 80 percent of its energy production. Coal is a very dirty fuel and burning it pollutes our air, causes major health problems, and is a major contributor to climate disruption. . Internship focus areas will include:
· Building a base to address and confront issues with coal-fired power plants.
· Recruiting University of Arizona students and helping to establish an on-campus Beyond Coal activist group.
· Working to reduce Tucson Electric Power’s overreliance on coal-fired electrical power by encouraging development of renewable energy resources and energy efficiency programs.
· Encouraging the Arizona Corporation Commission to make decisions favorable to the deployment of solar energy generation and energy efficiency programs in Arizona.
Both interns will be expected to work 8 hours per week, and will also be expected to do a weekly check -in with their immediate supervisor. The interns might also be working on other campaigns and initiatives that the Sierra Club Rincon Group chooses to address. In addition to these commitments they will also be expected to attend Sierra Club Rincon Group Conservation and Executive Committee meetings, which is the third Thursday of every month from 6:00 pm- 8:00 pm.
To apply for the internship, please send your resume and a cover letter to Natalie Lucas at nrlucas at email.arizona.edu. Applications will be due December 1st and interviews will be held December 10th-15th.
