Hello students and postdocs!

Just as last year, we will award Best paper awards for postdocs and students that will earn you an invited talk at the retreat as well as two different categories of poster awards - SPLS award and NSF sponsored Computational Plant Science Award.

We are still waiting for the budget approval of SPLS best paper and best poster awards and hope it will soon be approved (fingers crossed, but Betsy is on it!).

The official award rules with deadlines can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/2024AwardRules
The evaluation rubric for the poster awards can be found here: https://tinyurl.com/2024PosterRubric

Best,
Alex, Ravi, Amritha, Kelsey, Becca and Alonso
Award FAQ's from last years retreat:

  1. Can I use an old poster from a previous conference? Definitely yes! You might remember, one outcome of last years retreat was the realization that we are a really diverse research department. Therefore, we rarely see each other at conferences and the poster will be new to most of us. The retreat is simply a chance to celebrate science altogether in SPLS.
  2. Can I send my poster abstract after registration? Yes, you can. we are not here to punish you for late submission, we want you to to share your science. However, please still register and give us a title of the poster. Note in the form that you will submit later and send the title and abstract to bucksch at arizona.edu the latest on Dec. 10, 2024.
  3. Can participate without poster because my adviser does not let me present a poster, I have now time because my hamster ran away, I am totally overwhelmed right now or similar? Sure. Don't worry. The poster is only needed to participate in the award competition. We still require you register, mingle and have a good time with us. Please note during registration if you can't bring a poster. It makes our life easier.
  4. I won an award last year, can I win again this year? No, but you will likely be asked to be part of the poster jury to find the next rising star in SPLS.
