Dear graduate students,

As many are aware, a tragedy occurred late yesterday at the Marley Building. I am writing to offer my support and care for you, as valued members of our Plant Sciences community. Traumatic events affect each of us in different ways. Please join me in coming together as a community at this time, in mutual support, collegiality, and care for one another.

I have received permission to communicate with our listserv, and I would like to take a moment to connect with you. Specifically, I would like to share some information and ask for your help in checking in with your colleagues, office neighbors, staff, and others in your circle.

• At this time the investigation is ongoing. UAPD will work to rule out foul play and to identify the victim, and to connect with the community of that individual.

• The priority at this time is to connect you all, and all in our unit, with support services. In addition to 988 (the crisis line available 24/7) please see the list below.

Today and tomorrow, I am in Forbes 303C. My door will be open. I can be reached at any of my email addresses – arnold at ag.arizona.edu, fungi at email.arizona.edu, barnoldaz at gmail.com. If I can't speak at any given moment, please feel free to email me, and I'll catch up with you later in the day.

On Friday, I will welcome all unit members (faculty, staff, students) for an informal gathering at 11am, with refreshments provided as a gesture of my appreciation for the strength and kindness that abounds in our unit. This may change should more information come to light that warrants a change of course. For now, please stay tuned for a more complete invitation, including location.

I am grateful to you all for the work you do, for the support you give each other, and for the light you bring to our SPLS community. Please care for yourselves, and one another, and know that you have my support and that of my colleagues.
