Good morning,
Our SPLS retreat is next week! Please don't forget to register
<https://splsretreat2024.godaddysites.com/> so we can plan for enough food
and coordinate the program.
*Important Item #1: Moderator Opportunity*
The Retreat Committee is looking for a student to moderate the research
talks on the morning of Thursday, December 13, 2024 (Day 2). This role
includes:
- Introducing each speaker (Dr. Rachel Gallery, PostDoc Talk Awardee,
Graduate Student Awardee, and the PostDoc Panel)
- Keeping the presentations on schedule
- Facilitating the Q&A sessions for each talk
If you are interested in serving as the moderator for this portion of the
program, please let me know by *Thursday, December 5, 2024*. Feel free to
reach out if you have any questions about the role.
*Important Item #2: Excellence in Graduate Education Breakout Session*
I will be leading the Excellence in Graduate Education breakout session on
Thursday, December 13, 2024 (Day 2). Since this session aims to reflect the
perspectives of all graduate students, I want to make sure everyone has an
opportunity to contribute to it.
Currently, the proposed format is as follows:
1. *Topic Proposals*: Retreat attendees will rank topics (e.g., those
listed in this Google Doc
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ESvPrr5fc6EMWb-HiinZDioejUJZMxE5QZFGCgOhcK4/edit?usp=sharing>)
that they feel are most important for fostering graduate excellence. This
will be done with a live poll.
2. *Breakout Discussions*: Groups comprising students, faculty, staff,
and postdocs will discuss the top 3–5 topics based on the polling results.
I would love to hear your thoughts on this format. Additionally, feel free
to add or remove topics from the Google Doc
<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ESvPrr5fc6EMWb-HiinZDioejUJZMxE5QZFGCgOhcK4/edit?usp=sharing>
that
you think should be included in the poll.
Thank you for your feedback!
Best,
Kelsey Pryze
