The Impact Leader program is a professional development program for CALES graduate students. The Fellows represent the premier graduate students across the diverse disciplines of the College. As a cohort, Fellows will gain knowledge in developing effective teams, communicating with diverse individuals and navigating their careers. Sherry Harsch-Porter is a professional facilitator and will run three of the topics, including an in-depth DiSC assessment<https://www.discprofile.com/what-is-disc> for each student. Other faculty and staff at the University of Arizona will be leading the three other workshops. Additionally, Fellows will be matched with industry coaches who can give them industry perspectives, help to build a professional network, and highlight the skillsets required to be successful. This is an incredible opportunity to learn skills that you may not have learned in your studies.

At the end of the program, students will have been provided the following tools:
1.    Professional headshot
2.    Resume/CV reviewed by a professional
3.    Elevator speech
4.    Experience with mock interviews and media queries
5.    Interaction with an industry mentor

Full participation in all training dates maximizes the impact this training will have on skill development and career trajectory. The most optimal modality for these trainings is in person on the University of Arizona main campus. Ensuring access is important; therefore, discussions on reasonable accommodations can be directed to Jia Hu (jiahu at arizona.edu).

Tentative schedule for the Impact Leader Fellows Program

  1.  Orientation meeting - Week of December 4 (TBD)
  2.  First, Know Thyself - January 19, 2024 8:00am-4:30pm
  3.  Opportunities for Innovation | Entrepreneurial mindset - February 23, 2024. 8:00am-4:30pm
  4.  High Performing Teams | Productive Conflict - March 15, 2024, 8:00am-4:30pm
  5.  Communicate Your Story | Build Your Brand - April 5th, 2024, 8:00am-1:00pm
  6.  Communicate Your Story | Build Your Brand - April 19th, 2024, 8:00am-1:00pm
  7.  Navigating Setbacks | Managing Your Career - May 3, 2024, 12:00pm-3:30pm; Closing reception - 4:00-6:00pm
Each student will be matched with an industry coach and five conversations (30-60 min each) will be scheduled based on mutual availability
