On behalf of UA’s NSF research traineeship in “Building Resources for InterDisciplinary training in Genomic and Ecosystem Sciences”, BRIDGES<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/bridges.arizona.edu/__;!!Bt8fGhp8LhKGRg!VroTVxBqtd3FmiQMjtIiUuPESImLhPv8n6PYlTXhM2Vq1W0FfzPv2CAkgJUePqqQ$>), we would like to invite you to our first annual capstone Ecosystem Genomics Convergence Institute, on the theme, “Challenges of Ecosystem Genomics”.

The public portion of this event takes place Tuesday, May 17th and Wednesday, May 18th at the BIO5 Institute on the UA Campus (online option for panels and student talks).

We welcome your participation, and ask that those interested in attending (particularly if you will join us for our catered lunch) to please RSVP HERE<https://urldefense.com/v3/__https:/docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfsY0UAo2XoWsW-J51UZllmo2ZZKvwuw3NlZelHcy5otvzfwQ/viewform__;!!Bt8fGhp8LhKGRg!VroTVxBqtd3FmiQMjtIiUuPESImLhPv8n6PYlTXhM2Vq1W0FfzPv2CAkgI_Rxa5_$> at your earliest convenience.

This “all hands” Institute will start May 17th with an invited panel engaging “Challenges of Ecosystem Genomics” featuring Sarah Bagby of Case Western Reserve (an expert in microbial ecology and physiology), Manuel Lerdau of the University of Virginia (a plant physiological evolutionary ecologist whose interests include atmospheric chemistry), and UA’s own Erin Leahy (our sociologist of the cultures of science who studies interdisciplinarity).

Following panels and discussion, the Institute will feature BRIDGES graduate student trainees presenting their proposals for team-based research experiences for peer and faculty feedback, part of their training in both disciplinary excellence and interdisciplinary skills.

Although in-person is preferred, some aspects of the Convergence Institute can be joined remotely. We also have a Data Skills Pre-session (May 16) which is in person only with registration capped at 20 participants.

The evolving agenda is now available for viewing.
