Re: Invitation to Join CIRTL, UArizona’s Newest Faculty Prep Program

We are excited to announce that UArizona has joined CIRTL, the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning. This is an international network of almost 40 research universities across the U.S. and Canada that collaborate to provide free professional development opportunities for graduate students and postdocs interested in teaching as part of their academic careers. As members participate in local and cross-network offerings, such as courses and workshops on themes like gender equity and inclusive teaching, they work toward earning nationally recognized certificate levels that demonstrate their initiation into evidence-based teaching and learning. Local offerings will include taking electives from OIA’s Certificate in College Teaching, co-teaching with an expert teacher, participating in faculty learning communities, taking a course on teaching writing across the curriculum, and working on teaching projects (more information coming soon on locally-sponsored CIRTL events!).

Specifically, CIRTL strives to train STEM graduate students and postdocs to be excellent evidence-based teachers as well as excellent researchers, but we hope that folks in all disciplines who are interested in improving their teaching will consider joining us! As part of our CIRTL membership, UArizona graduate students, postdocs, and interested faculty have access to all of the CIRTL teaching and career development tools, including resources for teaching online. All you need to do is sign up for CIRTL at UArizona<https://academicaffairs.arizona.edu/join-cirtl> on our newly launched website<https://academicaffairs.arizona.edu/cirtl>. There you can also find more information about the certificate levels and links to all the upcoming courses, workshops, learning communities, and events.

Joining a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) Will Count Toward your Certificate

As part of CIRTL’s commitment to learning communities, we would like to welcome interested graduate students and postdocs to try out CIRTL by joining a local Faculty Learning Community (FLC)<https://academicaffairs.arizona.edu/flc-registration-schedule> later this month. All FLCs can count toward the first CIRTL certificate level and are a great way to get involved with our campus teaching community for networking and mentoring.

Please stay tuned for more information about CIRTL at UArizona. In the meantime, we invite you to join our newest campus learning community and together explore ways to expand our programming here on campus. Please email us<mailto:cirtl at arizona.edu> if you have questions and to let us know how you would like to be involved in CIRTL at UArizona!
