Hi Grads,

We are writing to everyone with two items related to our international students, because everyone may be hearing about the new rules from ICE. In brief, if a student from abroad takes a course load that does not include "in-person" units, their visa will be jeopardized. This includes high risk students and of course everyone, if we go to completely online instruction due to external conditions.

First, confirmation that no student in our program needs to worry about this: The Graduate College just confirmed that the following units count as "in-person". If you are an international student, Georgina has contacted you to ensure you are registered for Fall and for at least one of the following units. Please contact her if you have any questions about your registration, minimum credits, etc.

  *   Dissertation units
  *   Thesis units
  *   Independent study units
  *   Directed research (900s)
  *   Internships
  *   Most practica
  *   Recitals

Second, advocacy: The Graduate and Professional Student Council is calling on all concerned members of the community to engage in advocacy. Please see attached pdf that provides information on the situation, and instructions for how to help (and, how not to break the UA rules while you are helping).

Best,
Shelley
