Hello all,

We want to remind everyone to discuss with your advisors coursework for the Fall semester and send me an email to register for Research (900) or Dissertation units. The following courses will be offered  by The School of Plant Sciences this Fall:

PLS 548A	Plant Biochem and Metabolic Engineering (Schmidt)
PLS 558		Plant Molecular Biology (Yadegari)

PLS 695A	Journal Club (see note below)				(required)

*SPLS Journal Club*

PLS 695A, The School of Plant Sciences Journal Club, will be offered Fall 2017 (and not offered Spring 2018).

Structure for the course:

Dr. McMahon will lead the course. The semester will begin with general instruction on how to read primary literature. Each week thereafter, we will read and discuss a paper chosen by a different SPLS faculty member, who will attend the discussion. We anticipate that all of the new students will be in the course, so consider joining us -- to read great papers, meet the new students, and interact with faculty from across the School!

*Journal Club Policies*

The SPLS Journal Club (JC) policy has changed. Please see attached, which will be in next year's graduate handbook and on our website (both in prep). Briefly: as before, each PhD student is required to take four semesters of journal clubs. Now, up to two (of the four) may be domain-specific journal clubs, with committee approval. MS students are still required to take PLS 695A twice.

Finally, annual reports (both student and major advisor portions) are due at the end May. You will find the forms on the SPLS website under Academics/Graduate. If you cannot get the reports done by the end of the month let me know.
