Recognize Faculty, Students, Staff and Programs for their Contributions!
Dear Students,
Here are several major opportunities to recognize the contributions of faculty, students, staff and programs. The Peter Likins and Richard Ruiz Inclusive Excellence Awards<http://diversity.arizona.edu/peter-w-likins-inclusive-excellence-awards> include $500 awards for programs, students, staff, and faculty and programs who are improving campus climate, expanding our engagements, and advancing innovations in recruiting, teaching and supporting students from underrepresented backgrounds. The deadline is December 18. Anyone can submit a nomination<http://diversity.arizona.edu/peter-w-likins-inclusive-excellence-awards-richard-ruiz-diversity-leadership-award-application>.
The Outstanding Achievement in Teaching and Student Impact Awards<http://provost.arizona.edu/files/2016_call_for_nominations_-_teaching_awards_and_student_impact_web.pdf> include our highest University awards for teaching, including the Henry and Phyllis Koffler Award, which this year will be focused on teaching. In alternating years, this $10,000 award celebrates originality in research, scholarship and creative activities and in outreach. The deadline is January 8. Anyone can submit a nomination<http://provost.arizona.edu/honors_and_awards#Teaching_Awards>.
The Distinguished Scholar Awards<http://provost.arizona.edu/distinguished-scholar-award> provide $10,000 in funding for three mid-career tenure-track professors or continuing-status professionals who have been recently promoted to associate, and in some cases full. This award recognizes those whose research is having a major impact, and who are making valued contributions to teaching, service and outreach. The deadline is January 25. Anyone can submit a nomination (PDF<http://provost.arizona.edu/files/distinguishedscholarsapplicationform.pdf>) or (DOCX<http://provost.arizona.edu/files/distinguishedscholarsapplicationform.docx>). As detailed in the Provost's call for nominations<provost.arizona.edu/files/2016-distinguish-scholars-award-call.pdf>, the nominations need to be endorsed by a department head and are then forwarded to deans.

Grading can present many challenges. Effectiveness often depends on clarifying your role as a TA, communicating assignment-specific grading criteria, making good choices during the grading, and giving your students a framework to process and apply your feedback. This interactive workshop will explore each of these aspects and aim at formulating strategies that allow you and your students to engage effectively with graded assessments as a practice that is both viable and supports learning.
