Subject: March 2014 GradFunding Advice - Remember GPSC!
When looking for funding, do not forget to look in your own backyard. Your department and the university are one of your best prospects for funding. Also, remember you are most likely eligible for the funding available through your own Graduate and Professional Student Council. The GPSC provides the following four types of funding (the following summary and further information can be found on their website http://www.gpsc.arizona.edu/sections/funding/fundingPrograms.php):
Travel Grants<http://www.gpsc.arizona.edu/travel-grants>: The GPSC awards travel grants for graduate and professional students who are attending or presenting research at academic or professional conferences or similar events.
Research and Project Grants<http://gpsc.arizona.edu/research-grants>: The GPSC awards research grants for graduate and professional students who have a project proposal and principal investigator or project advisor.
Club Funding<http://www.gpsc.arizona.edu/club-funding>: The GPSC provides funding support for student clubs for use toward startup expenses, supplies and organizing club events. The student club must have at least 50% UA graduate and/or professional student members.
Professional Opportunities Development (POD) Funding:<http://www.gpsc.arizona.edu/pod> The GPSC awards Professional Opportunity and Development Grants to graduate and professional student groups for the purposes of holding academic seminars, conferences or similar events on campus.
Further, if you plan to apply for fellowships and grants, including but not limited to those listed above, volunteer to review grants for GPSC. Reviewing grants will provide you with insight that will be invaluable as you apply for any grant. Contact UNION-gpscfunding at email.arizona.edu<mailto:UNION-gpscfunding at email.arizona.edu> if you are interested in reviewing grants.
