I wanted to see if any grad students are interested in the green
volunteering student organization that I will be creating this fall. The
plan is to centralize many green volunteering opportunities through this
organization and deliver a weekly (maybe monthly) email digest directly to
student members.
Volunteering opportunities could include:
tree planting/assessment, buffelgrass/invasive species removal/mapping/data
collection, adopt-a-park/street/wash, erosion control measure
installation/monitoring, air quality monitoring, fire management, trail
maintenance, litter removal, building maintenance, landscape restoration,
desert animal care, gardening
Organizations that I've already made contact with include:
Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum
Tucson Clean & Beautiful / City of Tucson
Southern Arizona Buffelgrass Coordination Center
USDA-NRCS Plant Materials Center
Altar Valley Conservation Alliance
Pima County Dept of Environmental Quality
The Nature Conservancy
Town of Oro Valley
Saguaro National Park
Tucson Botanical Gardens
IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED IN HELPING ME GET THIS ORGANIZATION UP AND RUNNING
OR WOULD JUST LIKE TO BE A MEMBER (to receive the email list of green
volunteer opportunities, no pressure to actually volunteer) PLEASE RESPOND
TO THIS EMAIL AND LET ME KNOW AT WHAT LEVEL YOU'D LIKE TO BE INVOLVED (eg.
leadership role, member only). PLEASE ALSO MENTION WHAT DEPARTMENT YOU ARE
FROM.
I plan to hold a meeting in early September to gather everyone that wants to
get involved on more than the member level.
So that's it! I hope some of you will want to get involved. I think it
will be a great way to make new friends, meet environmental professionals
throughout Southern Arizona, get your hands dirty, and get a few good deeds
under your belt. If you've made it all the way to the end of this email,
thanks a lot!!!
