[Plsgs] Dr. Fauquet's seminar cancelled

Hi Everyone,

 

As you may know, Dr. Fauquet, our graduate student-invited seminar speaker
for November 6th has recently had a paper retracted from PLoS One
(http://www.plosone.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0016256#
aff1).  His home institution (the Danforth Center) carried out an
institutional investigation and found that significant amounts of data and
supporting documentation for the work could not be found.  

 

After consultation with the Dr. Arnold (Director of Graduate Studies), Drs.
Wing and VanEtten (Co-Chairs of the Seminar Committee), and Sarah Doore (Dr.
Fauquet's host), I asked Dr. Fauquet to postpone his visit until the issues
with his data are resolved.  A major reason for giving you the opportunity
to invite seminar speakers is so that you have strong, research-centered
interactions during your graduate education; we did not feel this would be
possible with Dr. Fauquet until these issues are fully resolved.   

 

I have asked Sarah to find out if there are available seminar dates for the
spring semester and, if so, to talk with all of you about the possibility of
inviting a second outside speaker this spring.
