Dear colleagues,
I'd like to take a moment to congratulate everyone on reaching the conclusion of this busy and challenging semester. It's a special time for our graduates and their families, and it's a time of change for our students, our work life, and ourselves. I wish everyone the best and am delighted to reflect on all that we have accomplished this term. I hope that everyone has some down time ahead, with a chance to refresh and refuel.
I'm writing because I'd like to touch base on a few things for us as a faculty. Please see the points below for a few short announcements.
Important: for reasons outlined below, we will not have a faculty meeting tomorrow, but I will update all of us with news, and a chance to connect, when we do have more information.
Warm regards,
Betsy
• I thank the APR committee once again for their work this spring. I will be posting APRs and sharing final position descriptions over the coming days.
• Thank you to everyone who completed the committee preference poll. Your input is appreciated, and as part of communication about APRs, I'll reach out to discuss committee assignments.
• I'd like to share that at this time, we continue to await budget news from CALES. Interim Dean Mike Staten informed the unit heads last Friday evening that some time would be needed to work through the information provided to ALVSCE from Central Administration. I anticipate that we will have an update shortly, but we may not know meaningful details before next week. SPLS is stable and solid at this time. For this reason, and secondarily, in acknowledgment of burnout and travel at the end of term, we will not hold a faculty meeting tomorrow. I will share news as it comes in.
• Our newsletter, which shifted to once-per-semester due to matters at the start of the year, is forthcoming. Do you have news to share? Please submit your news by Monday at 5pm to https://forms.gle/CB6MG7TiscNh1Ch36.
