Dear colleagues,

I am profoundly saddened to share that Dr. Mike Worobey in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology has communicated the identity of the victim in Tuesday's tragic loss of life. Together we mourn the loss of Lorena Malpica Serrano, a graduate student in EEB.

Please join me in sharing condolences with our friends in the EEB community. Members of our faculty and students in our labs may have known Lorena, and I ask that we all act in mutual support and care in this time.

I know that this news is felt acutely by so many, including members of our own graduate community. Please take time today to check in with your students. In collaboration with our DGS, Mark Beilstein, a message will go out to our graduate students shortly.
