[Plsfaculty] Faculty Council Updates

Dear Faculty-

I am writing with some updates on behalf of Faculty Council.

First, I want to let you all know that the Council voted at its November meeting to officially change our name from the CALES/CES Faculty Council to the ALVSCE Faculty Council. This new name aligns with the ALVSCE Division brand, and reflects the council’s inclusion of faculty from both the college and cooperative extension.

Second, I want to share a document that was compiled based on questions that Faculty Council representatives asked ahead of the last ALVSCE Townhall. Not all questions could be answered at the Townhall, so the EC worked together to respond to many of your questions in writing.

Third, there are many things that have been unfolding with the College’s budget under the new AIB model. All faculty and staff are able to review ALVSCE budget meeting materials contained here<https://arizona.app.box.com/v/alvsce-business-retreats> on the Compass website. Of importance, you can go to 2024 Business Retreats-Fall 1 2024 Business Retreat to view the materials and meeting recording from the retreat on September 12th, in which Shane, Jeff and Janet describe what is known about AIB and its known impacts on the college. I encourage you all to watch the meeting recording and review the slides from the Fall budget retreat. You can also direct your colleagues to the same information.

Fourth, Faculty Council recently approved a motion to recommend that the Dean create a joint working group titled the CALES Budget Review Working Group with the following composition and mandate: 3 faculty, 3 staff, and 3 administrators. Charge: Review the overall financial position and budget of the College of Agriculture, Life and Environmental Sciences (CALES); Identify opportunities for cost savings, new revenues, and operational efficiencies; Recommend College-wide initiatives, policy changes, and practice changes to improve the financial sustainability of CALES; Consult and engage with faculty, staff, and administrators in developing recommendations; Provide a report with recommendations to the CALES Dean and governance bodies by January 31, 2024.

Fifth, Faculty Council voted to advance a proposal for revisions to the APR policy, outlined here: https://arizona.box.com/s/of5psg1v16sut34o7rcc4v871lehynyo, to the faculty senate for consideration. With this action, we ask our CALES Faculty Senators to propose this policy revision with the backing of the ALVSCE Faculty Council.

  *   ALVSCE Faculty Council meets on the afternoon of the first Thursday of each month. They are not public meetings, but all notes are posted to our website, within about a week following the meeting.
  *   How to elevate topics to the Faculty Council agenda:

     *   Share ideas/concerns directly with their FC representative--> They can submit topics to our monthly agendas.
