Hi all,
Here's a little more information about what it's like to serve on Faculty
Council.
The council meets once a month during fall and spring semesters via zoom to
discuss issues raised by our constituent faculty. When appropriate, we
draft memos to the Dean and CALES EC or other university governing bodies;
we also interact with CALES faculty senators to ensure issues that extend
beyond CALES are addressed at Faculty Senate. Some of the issues we worked
on this year included concerns regarding UITS centralization, equity and
transparency in the merit increase process, and understanding graduate
funding mandates in CALES. Service on faculty council has also been a great
way to meet faculty from across the college (at least virtually). Next year
the council will be chaired by Ashlee Linares-Gaffer from Nutritional
Sciences.
We are on summer break at the moment, but it would be good to have a new
SPLS representative in place when the fall semester begins. If you have any
other questions, please reach out.
Best wishes,
Becky
