Dear Colleagues,
We hope you will pass the following information about the UArizona CIRTL Postdoc Pathways Program to any postdocs in your colleges who have shown an interest in teaching. The deadline to apply for this year's cohort is September 1, 2023.
As part of our recent institutional membership in the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL), the Postdoc Pathways Program<https://academicaffairs.arizona.edu/cirtl-postdoc-pathway> is a one-year certificate program in STEM teaching excellence designed to be compatible with a postdoc's research program and flexible to their teaching interests. The program, which was featured in the AZ Daily Star<https://tucson.com/news/local/new-ua-program-equips-future-stem-professors-with-inclusive-teaching-skills/article_9953feb6-47d7-11ec-92d2-47b82ed94887.html>, combines training in evidence-based pedagogy and a short-term co-teaching assignment with a faculty mentor in the second semester. We're proud to share that our first publication on the program's outcomes is forthcoming in College Teaching, one of the leading teaching and learning journals. What makes this program unique is that it focuses on just-in-time learning that the postdocs can actively apply to their co-teaching assignment and their professional job materials, and it is designed to work with their busy research schedules.
The 31 postdocs who have participated in the program since its inception three years ago have reported significant gains in their teaching practice, a greater understanding of undergraduate STEM education, and vastly improved job preparation. Breanne Lott, who was a 2021-2022 fellow and is now an Assistant Professor at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, said that "The Postdoc Pathways Program has come up multiple times during each campus interview I've had, which I think speaks to the importance of a program like this for professional development of postdocs....[t]his program is a real asset to us."
We appreciate your help in spreading the word and look forward to welcoming the new cohort.
Sincerely,
Gail D. Burd, Ph.D.

The first of its kind on the CIRTL Network<https://academicaffairs.arizona.edu/cirtl>, this innovative one-year teaching certificate program will train you to step into your first faculty position by combining one semester of training and preparation and one semester of co-teaching part of a course with a faculty mentor. With an emphasis on just-in-time training and application, it has been designed to be compatible with your research commitments and flexible to your individual teaching and learning interests. See more about the program requirements<https://academicaffairs.arizona.edu/cirtl-pathway-at-a-glance> on our website.
Last year's cohort reported significant gains in their teaching practice, a greater understanding of undergraduate STEM education, and vastly improved job preparation. Shaun Davis, 2021-2022 fellow and now Assistant Professor at Lawrence University, said that the program "completely transformed how I view undergraduate education...and completely changed how I plan, anticipate, and execute classroom teaching."
We hope you will consider applying--you can find the online application here<https://academicaffairs.arizona.edu/cirtl-pathway-how-to-apply>. Applications are due September 1st and require a letter from your PI supporting your participation.
