Subject: CALES 2023 Incoming Class

Good morning colleagues,

I am pleased to share information about our Fall 2023 Incoming Class. Please see the attached document to learn about our student demographics, career interests, experiences students want to have while here, supports they anticipate needing, and more.

There are many takeaways here, but one that I want to point out specifically: 89% of our incoming students expect to need at least a little support around asking for help (pg 9). This may mean that students don't ask for help or advocate for themselves - and that they may not know how to. Our proactivity in asking students how they are doing, what questions they have, and what they need can go a long way in supporting their success throughout their first few weeks - and beyond!

As indicated in the deck, lists of students are available for targeted outreach. This a great way to invite students to your events, workshops, services, and more. Please let me know what you are interested in.

Please share this information widely with your faculty and staff as we welcome our new students!

Bear Down and stay safe!
