Subject: AGI and UITS IT Update

Hey David,

Mario Marquez and I met with representatives from UITS and Rod Wing's Arizona Genomic Institute. My impression is that UITS did not have a good solution for many of the lab's complicated but mature and well-run data workflows. Our specific questions are getting punted to another meeting with UITS Director of Research Computing, Dr. Jeremy Frumkin. If we were to do a simple lift and shift migration to UITS' mandatory offering, AGI would be looking at a storage bill of $1,570,406/year. However, UITS conceded that (initially) parts of the lab do not fit into a UITS centralized model. If Jeremy agrees with their initial assessment, the lab should be exempted, inventoried, and continue to operate as usual. At no point did anyone ask about the current level of IT security.

I'll provide an update after our next meeting.
