[Plsfaculty] SPFI Homestretch: Meetings with Dr. Vergara and Faculty Survey of all Candidates

Hi all,

There are still a couple of spots open for the faculty group meeting with Dr. Daniela Vergara today at 1:00PM, so please sign up if you'd like a chance to chat with her (link in the overall scheduling spreadsheet HERE<https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1TQQ2pO1ctjfuiG0TD0U9Noqeg-YBbMJIGFlsgOzjsVM/edit?usp=sharing>).

Also, a reminder to please fill out the faculty survey about all the SPFI candidates. We on the SPFI committee are very interested in hearing your thoughts on the candidates as we move forward to propose candidates for the SPFI position (link in the overall scheduling spreadsheet above and HERE<https://forms.gle/aTXe7qEDUfnfTUTu9>).

Our hope is that we can put up two candidates to hire, initially at the level of CALS and then for the SPFI positions through the Provost. My strong opinion is that it is important to build a solid foundation to impact change in the context of DEI issues and that bringing in a built in cohort as a result of this search will give these new faculty the best opportunity and chance to thrive as faculty members but will also give PLS the best chance to really make a difference going forward. However, I respect that there may be differing opinions especially since these hires may impact our ability to hire in the near future. Please either mention these concerns in the survey, or I am happy to receive the concerns through email or to schedule individual meetings if you would like to voice both positive and negative thoughts about this search as well as the process in general.

We expect to make final decisions about who to proceed with to the CALS level by 3/22 and to the Provost by 3/26.
