Hi all:

I just finished a zoom meeting with the council of my scholarly society (the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry). Our president is a clinical and research immunologist based at the University of Modena. He is concerned about the emergence in Italy of newly-positive Covid-19 individuals from patients that had previously tested twice as negative following clearing of infection. The numbers that are emerging cannot be dismissed as false-negative readings since there are too many of them. The results in Italy have also been reported in South Korea. The concern is that recovery from the initial infection may not be accompanied by viral clearing, which would imply the virus may become permanently endemic. This will impact places, businesses, universities, etc., that involve gatherings of large numbers of individuals. It seems unlikely to me that UA will be opening for business soon.

David
