Re: NSF's Research.gov now accessible with UA NetID

Principal Investigators, co-PIs, and Sponsored Projects personnel who use
National Science Foundation (NSF) services via the Research.gov portal can
streamline the authentication process by linking their existing NSF
ID/password to their UA NetID. The Research.gov portal allows researchers to
manage their grants portfolios (FastLane) and find information from NSF for
the research community.

The University of Arizona is a part of the InCommon Federation, an
organization of universities, research facilities, and private partners that
enables member institutions to easily and securely exchange user information
to facilitate sharing of online resources. The National Science Foundation
has recently integrated their Research.gov website with InCommon, allowing
UA users of Research.gov to login via WebAuth, using their UA NetIDs.

Following are the instructions for researchers to log in to Research.gov via
InCommon:

1. Go to the NSF's Research.gov portal: http://research.gov.

2. Select "InCommon" in the login box drop down menu, located in the upper
left-hand corner of the site, and click Login.

3. You will be redirected to a page where you select University of Arizona
from a drop down menu and you will be taken to UA¹s login page.

4. Log in with your UA NetID and password to be transferred back to
Research.gov.

Upon your first time logging in as an InCommon user, please follow the
following set of additional steps:

1. Once you are logged- in, click on the ³Activate Now² link in the Account
Activation section of Research.gov.

2. Read the Rules of Behavior and click the Activate button.

3. Enter your last name, NSF ID, and password in the appropriate fields and
select submit.

4. You will then receive a message stating that activation has been
submitted successfully and you are successfully logged in to Research.gov.

Once your NSF ID/password has been linked with your UA NetID, you will be
able to access Grants Application Status, Project Outcomes Report for the
General Public, and other Research.gov services, simply by logging in with
your UA NetID.
