Subject: FY 11 SWC Pre proposal funding

 

Dear SWC Preproposal Applicants for FY 11 funds and SWC Committee Members,

 

I am writing to inform you that, due to the failure of Congress to pass the
omnibus bill that would have funded the Southwest Consortium on Plant
Genetics and Water Resources (SWC), there will be no preproposal/proposal
funding in FY 2011.

 

I apologize for the delay in getting this information to you. We have been
hopeful that things would change, but see no promise of that happening.

 

I will be sending  reviewer remarks on preproposals as a "FYI" , as these
remarks may provide PI's with information that may be helpful in preparing
applications to other agencies.

 

We are disappointed that Congress has taken this approach toward dealing
with budget issues, since the entire amount of funding of special grants
(aka earmarks ) is comparatively low. Hopeful, we can find a mechanism to
keep the SWC program alive, and restart with new preproposals/proposals for
FY 12.

 

As always, we thank you for your participation in this program. Please share
this information with co-PIs and other parties that may have an interest.
