[Plsfaculty] Plant Sciences Outreach

The Plant Science Recruiting and Outreach Committee will be participating in
the Math Science and Technology FUNFEST at the Tucson Convention Center,
February 16‐17, 2012.

 

You are invited to participate with us! 

To participate, you must develop a brief (5-15minute) hands-on activity that
will inspire young minds to learn more about plants. Please notify me of
your intent to participate. This will afford time for the Recruiting and
Outreach committee to support your efforts. If you have great ideas, but
cannot present this year, I encourage you to relay these as well. We may be
able to implement your idea for you. 

 

The FUNFEST is a great way to communicate your passion for plants to a
community of science professionals in Arizona and to future UA Plant Science
majors! The festival engages over 300 professional scientists and experts
who provide interactive displays and short workshops that introduce 4th- 8th
graders to principles of math, science and engineering in a fun and
memorable way. More than 6000 students and science teachers from Southern
Arizona are expected to attend. Since the event will focus on plant sciences
this year, we would like the School of Plant Sciences to be well
represented. Several faculty have already committed but we hope to have a
3-5 more from our School sign up.
