Hello All,
I would like to take this opportunity to advise you of the new state
regulations for new employees who are benefits eligible and hired after July
1, 2011. But, this information is new to the UA and the various Central
Administration Offices (HR, Provost, UA General Counsel and the President's
Cabinet) are working on the official implementation and notification of
these changes to the UA HR Benefits policies.
Please let me stress this does not affect current employees only new hires
with start dates after July 1, 2011. But, the uncertainty, is for
employees with start dates after 07.01.11 who have signed the official
letter of offers.
Governor Jan Brewer has signed into Arizona State Law the following changes
to the benefits received by new hired state employees (with start dates
after 07.01.11):
. Retirement points have been changed from 80 points to 85 points.
Points are a combination of age plus years of service. If your start date
is before 07.01.11, then your retirement points to receive full retirement
is still 80 points.
. Medical, Vision, Dental and Retirement benefits will be effective
90 days after your start date not the normal next month.
Again, I would like to stress this is just an advisement of the new changes
to policies. Central Administration is working on the implementation,
notification and the issue of those new employees who have signed their
letters of offer with the old benefit policies. Therefore, if you have
someone starting their employment with the UA after July 1, 2011 (only those
who have signed their letters) do not inform them of these changes just yet.
Also, the letters of offers we have in process are being delayed just a bit
until we have a definitive answer from Central Administration about these
changes.
As always, when someone as a question about their benefits it is best to
refer them to us in the Administrative Office as employees due to their
classification and start date have different benefits.
Please let me know if you have any questions about these changes, please
contact me.
Cheers
Donna-Rae
