Subject: Important Research Security Update - URGENT

National research sources indicate yet again that the University of Arizona
may be targeted for protests and demonstrations by Animal Rights Activists
during the month of April which is known as World Laboratory Animal
Liberation Month. This year, the week of April 17-25 has been designated
World Week for Animals in Laboratories (WWAIL) with April 24th as World Day
for Laboratory Animals. Many of us remember the days when April was a very
active month for animal rights activities such as break-ins, sit-ins,
building take-overs, etc. Therefore, it behooves us all to be particularly
vigilant during April to ensure the safety of ourselves, our laboratories,
and our animal facilities. We will be holding a campus-wide security update.
See information below for this meeting and the agenda.

You and your staff, especially any new employees, are encouraged to attend.
It is important that we have at least one person from each lab present.

When: Thursday, April 1 at 11:00a.m.

Where: DuVal Auditorium at University Medical Center

Agenda:
Introduction and information about WWAIL
Video of break-in
Recent history of activists targeting universities
Personal security measures for researchers (Tucson Police)
Bomb and letter security (UAPD/TPD)
Building security/lock up procedures (UAPD)
Back Up Any Information You Can't Afford to Lose
What to do if protesters show up
Whom to call for assistance
Dates of suspected events
