[Plsfaculty] graduate students

The Graduate Student Committee has given me a list of their top 10 students
and then next 6. I will be sending acceptance and funding letters to the top
candidates this week. We can accept (and fund) two more students that we
have money for a this time. This is how much insurance money I have this
year and this translates to 6 students. However, two of these will go to the
2nd year PhD students from last year. This leaves 4 funding slots. 
 
>From the list below, I will send letters to Leydon, Navarez, Cheng and
Wiltshire this week for PLS. Wiltshire will bring their own money and I feel
certain that one or both of the IGERT candidates will be funded. If both are
funded, I will move down the list. For PLP students, we will follow a
similar path. This is going to be a long and slow process because students
can actually wait until 15 Apr to make a final decision. If we get the
additional monies that I have requested from the Grad School or the Deans,
then we will expedite the offers going down the list.
 
The reason that I am writing to you is that if you have identified a student
that you want to recruit to your lab, and you have the funding, please see
me so that we can make an earlier offer to this student. I also need to hear
from about your interests in these students, in particular, Chewachong and
Liang, who are admissible and who bring their own money.
