Promoting Health
by Linking Agriculture Food and Nutrition
June 16-18 at the University of California, Davis
Agriculture and conventional food systems have provided the basis for long
and healthy lives but now face a growing critique that conventional food
systems are a significant contributor to a health crisis in developed
countries, particularly related to obesity and diabetes. It is with this
dichotomy - agriculture and diet being both the problem and the solution to
an increasing health crisis - that this conference is framed, addressing
both sides of the issue. The conference addresses the growing research base
linking food to positive health outcomes as well as behavioral and
regulatory dimensions of the issue.
About NABC
The National Agricultural Biotechnology Council has been hosting annual
public meetings about the safe, ethical, and efficacious development of
agricultural biotechnology products since its formation by the Boyce
Thompson Institute in collaboration with Cornell University, Iowa State
University, and the University of California, Davis, in 1988. Today the
organization, a not-for-profit consortium of 36 leading agricultural
research and teaching governmental agencies, institutions, and universities
in the U.S. and Canada, continues to provide all stakeholders the
opportunity to speak, to listen, and to learn about the issues surrounding
agricultural biotechnology.
