*** PLEASE FORWARD TO YOUR FACULTY ***

Science Foundation Arizona has offered to support statewide proposal
preparation for major federal and foundation funding larger than $5 million
a year. Our understanding is that this is not a formal RFP listed on the
SFAz website and that statewide in this case means clear collaboration with
the other Arizona universities (at least one, preferably both) with actual
or potential links to industry. The goal is to stimulate transformative
research and strategic partnerships bringing together PIs at the three
universities in the areas of Information and Communications Technology,
Sustainable Systems, and Biomedical Research.

SFAz will invest up to $500K to prepare up to 5 major statewide proposals so
that Arizona will have an advantage in competitions for stimulus and other
major funding. Funding opportunities with application deadlines in
approximately the next 6-9 months would be good candidates.

Please submit your pre-proposals to Colin Kaltenbach by 5 PM, FRIDAY, AUGUST
28.

The pre-proposal should consist of no more than a two-page summary of the
proposed program and address the following:

*	a statement of the problem
*	the impact the research will have on the problem
*	a description the research program, the project plan and key team
members
*	clear evidence of collaboration and partnership with the other two
universities must also be presented as well as potential for partnership
with industry, institutions, and foundations

Pre-proposals will be ranked and forward to the Office of the Vice President
for Research for final selection. Selected pre-proposals will be need to be
expanded into 5-page proposals for subsequent submission to SFAz, likely in
mid-September.
