[Plantsci] Introduction and Information from SPLS Business Office

Good Afternoon!

I would like to introduce myself as I start the new position as Manager, Finance & Administration for the School of Plant Sciences. Thanks to everyone who reached out to welcome me! I am very excited to work with all of you and look forward to making a strong, efficient partnership between all faculty/staff and the business office.

My story 🙂: I was raised in Northeastern Arizona, Pinetop-Lakeside. I left there in 2011 to come to Tucson and work at the University of Arizona. For the first 7 years of my UA Career, I worked at the Financial Services Office. In 2017 I moved to the Department of Environmental Sciences as an accountant and then business manager. In my previous careers I have been involved in every aspect of business administration and have held supervisor positions most of the time.

in the few days I have been at SPLS I have found three items that I feel are critical and am addressing as I write.

Current Critical Office Process Priorities:

1-Creating a better method for communicating to the business office.
Effective immediately, please send all correspondence that is NOT HR related to the following email address: spls-bizoffice at arizona.edu This email is now the main email address for the SPLS Business Office and all staff can access.  Utilizing one main email address, instead of emailing individuals directly, the business office can ensure responses will be timelier and more consistent as well as being able to more efficiently collect information needed to process PCard transactions and reimbursements.

 2-Improving the PCard reconciliation method.

3-Improving reimbursement process to ensure payments are issued in a timelier manner to students and staff.


As we in the business office continue to update our processes to better meet your needs and comply to UA and CALS policy, I would appreciate your flexibility to some changes that will forthcoming.  My team and I will clearly and concisely communicate any changes to avoid any confusion or slowdown in workflow. I am currently shifting duties and responsibilities to find efficiencies and will hopefully be on track with pending transactions over the next week.
