New Software Licenses Available for UA Faculty, Staff and Students

New Software Licenses Available for UA Faculty, Staff and Students
October 17, 2013

The Office of the CIO<http://www.cio.arizona.edu/>, in collaboration with the Dean's Information Technology Council<http://ditc.arizona.edu/> and the UA Site Licensing Task Force, has recently negotiated two significant license agreements for Qualtrics and Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) to increase access to these important tools, achieve operational efficiencies and reduce costs to the UA research and instructional community.

The first new license is for Qualtrics<http://www.qualtrics.com/>, and is an unlimited university site license for all UA faculty, staff and students. Qualtrics provides a robust, high-quality instrument to develop both online, offline, and mobile surveys. Qualtrics also provides a secure tool that meets SAS 70 requirements, US and European Safe Harbor regulations, IRB standards and regulations, and is FERPA compliant.

Colleges that have previously purchased a Qualtrics license will administer their individual licenses with a unique URL and interface. This allows surveys to be generated and identified as originating from specific colleges or organizations, increases the ability to manage and support researchers, develops discipline-specific tools and enhances collaboration opportunities.

To gain access to Qualtrics, contact your college or department IT director. A university-wide system will be available in early November. There are a limited number of licenses still available under the UA contract. If your college or department is interested in learning more about getting a UA license to Qualtrics, please contact Brian Atkinson (atkinson at email.arizona.edu<mailto:atkinson at email.arizona.edu>) or Jason Masciantoni (jasonm2 at email.arizona.edu<mailto:jasonm2 at email.arizona.edu>).

The second is a renewal of the ESRI<http://uabookstore.arizona.edu/technology/deptsublicense.asp> license for a suite of geographic information system (GIS) software, ArcGIS, for GIS professionals, location analytics, and developers under a new centralized purchase agreement by the Office of the CIO. Administration of the software license has transferred from the UA Bookstore to University Information Technology Services. ESRI software is available at no cost to all UA faculty and staff.

The UA Bookstore will continue to distribute the ESRI media until a new distribution process is arranged. To access ESRI software visit http://uabookstore.arizona.edu/technology/deptsublicense.asp.
