Phishing attempt email, Tuesday, September 18, 2012
 
Date and Time: Tuesday, September 18, 2012
 
Services Affected: University Email
 
Impact to Campus: Students and Staff may compromise their computer security
 
Additional Information: Numerous UA staff have received an email message with the subject line “Verify Your Email Account Now.”  The email warns of a security breach and asks the recipient to click on a link.  This is a particularly sophisticated phishing attempt, as it includes a copyright referencing the Arizona Board of Regents, as well as a URL containing webauth.arizona.edu.

If you receive this email message, please delete it from your incoming mail, and from your “deleted items” folder.

We encourage all members of the University community to:
- double-check the sender of questionable emails
- never send passwords or personal information over email; only enter passwords on pro tected University websites
- avoid clicking links in emails
- check with IT staff or the 24/7 IT Support Center about the legitimacy of messages requesting your action
