Subject: New VPN Security Certificate March 27

New UA VPN (Virtual Private Network) Security Certificate: March 27

Date and Time: Tuesday, March 27, 2012

Services Affected: UA VPN (Virtual Private Network). VPN services are used
to connect to secure UA networks from off campus computers.

Impact to Campus: Members of the campus community who are using VPN via
vpn.arizona.edu <https://vpn.arizona.edu/+CSCOE+/logon.html> to connect to
the University network from off-campus may get a message prompting them to
accept a new certificate. This is expected; they should accept the new
certificate and continue with their connection.
See below for additional optional information about Security Certificates.
If you do not use VPN, this announcement does not affect you.

Planned Operation: UITS will replace the current security certificate with a
new VPN security certificate on Tuesday evening, March 27, 2012.

Additional Information: No downtime is anticipated with this operation. This
information pertains ONLY to those users who connect to UA networks using
UA's Cisco AnyConnect VPN software. This does not affect computers on campus
or any campus WiFi connections. For more information on using VPN for off
campus connections, please visit https://sitelicense.arizona.edu/vpn/.

What is a Security Certificate and why should I care?
A Security Certificate is a file that attests to the identity of an
organization and is used to verify that data being exchanged over a network
is from the intended source. Use of UA's Security Certificate assures users
that they are connected to the genuine University network and not an
impostor posing as the University. By accepting the UA certificate you add
UA to the list of trusted certificating authorities your computer
acknowledges and approves.
