Biological Safety

The University has decided to adopt a unified laboratory safety program
composed of chemical safety, biosafety, and radiation control programs
within a single administrative support structure. The official name of this
new unit is the Office of Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Safety.

The Office of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Safety will continue to
report to the Assistant Vice President for Research Compliance and Policy,
who in turn reports to the Vice President for Research. Dan Silvain,
Director of the Radiation Control Office, will head the unified laboratory
safety program and Crystal Morris will serve as Biosafety Officer.

The Biosafety Program and the Chemical Safety Program will be housed
together with Radiation Control to best coordinate the use of administrative
resources. The creation of a comprehensive laboratory safety program is part
of our ongoing commitment to streamline procedures and find economies of
scale as we continue to improve our support for excellence in research.

If you have any questions about the new program structure, please feel free
to contact Caroline Garcia at 621-3900 or at cmgarcia at email.arizona.edu.
