Subject: Reporting Illegal or Unethical Conduct

To: All UA Employees
From: Eugene G. Sander, President

In light of the recent events at Penn State University, I believe it is
imperative to remind our campus about the importance of reporting illegal or
unethical conduct. The University of Arizona exists to improve people's
lives - through education, research and public service. It is contrary to
our values as an institution to avoid taking action when someone is
victimized by a crime or other form of harassment.

The University encourages individuals who become aware of criminal activity
or witness discrimination or harassment to report the matter immediately.
If you witness anything you believe to be criminal activity, contact the UA
Police Department immediately. If you are reluctant to identify yourself,
UAPD has established a tip line where individuals can report incidents of
harassment or other criminal activities that have occurred on campus.
Reports can be made anonymously.

Individuals who experience or witness discrimination or harassment also
should report the matter immediately, in order for the University to respond
promptly. Complaints about student misconduct should be directed to the
Dean of Students Office. Complaints related to harassment or discrimination
on the part of faculty, staff, vendors or visitors should be directed to the
Office of Institutional Equity.

As a reminder, employees who supervise others, teach students or have
management authority over a University-sponsored program or activity must
promptly notify the Office of Institutional Equity if they have reason to
suspect a violation of the employee Nondiscrimination and Anti-harassment
Policy. The UA's Ethics and Compliance Hotline provides the opportunity for
reporting of suspected ethics or compliance violations 24 hours a day, 7
days a week. This hotline allows employees, students or members of the
general public to express their concerns anonymously.

The phone numbers for all of the aforementioned departments and hotlines are
listed below:

.All Emergencies: 911
.UAPD Tips and Information Line: 520-626-0066
.Dean of Students: 520-621-7057
.Office of Institutional Equity: 520-621-9449
.Ethics and Compliance Hotline: 866-364-1908

Every report will be taken seriously and will receive proper follow-up by
the appropriate UA department. I cannot overemphasize the importance of
notifying the proper authorities if you become aware of illegal activity. No
one at this institution - regardless of his or her position or notoriety -
is above the law.
